Boost Brain Function & Immunity with Matcha

If we're talking about foods and drinks with fantastic health benefits, you know we're going to mention matcha. From matcha lattes, to desserts and treats, matcha’s popularity has skyrocketed over the last few years. And if the previous nine centuries in Japan are any indication, that popularity isn't going away any time soon.

But what’s the tea on matcha’s health benefits? Let’s look at some of the perks that make matcha a great addition to your daily routine!

How Does Matcha Boost Brain Function & Immunity?

Matcha is rich in immunity-boosting antioxidants and offers a wide range of health benefits. Plus, since you’re consuming the whole leaf, it possesses more vital benefits than drinking regular green tea.

Antioxidants

Matcha is rich in catechins, a plant compound found in tea that helps stabilize harmful free radicals, aka compounds that can damage cells and cause chronic diseases. Since matcha contains all the nutrients in the whole tea leaf, you’re getting more catechins and antioxidants than regular green tea (in fact, studies have shown that matcha has 137 times the catechins of regular green tea!).

L-Theanine

L-Theanine is an amino acid found in teas that helps your body gradually absorb caffeine, preventing all the jitters and afternoon crash from other sources like coffee. Studies have shown that L-theanine can help increase alpha wave activity in the brain, which may help to promote relaxation and decrease stress levels, so take a few sips and breathe easy!

Junbi matcha is shade-grown in the weeks before harvest, making the tea leaves rich in L-Theanine and producing a uniquely delicate umami taste profile, for a healthy yet delicious energy boost!

Brain Function

Some research suggests that matcha may help improve brain function. A study of 23 people found that those who consumed around 4 grams of matcha performed better on a series of tasks designed to measure brain performance than those who consumed a placebo. Researchers found improvements in memory, attention, and reaction time amongst those who consumed matcha.

Additionally, matcha contains a more concentrated amount of caffeine than regular green tea, packing in 35mg of caffeine per half teaspoon (about 1 gram) of matcha powder. So the next time you have a test to study for, or a big day ahead of you, try enjoying some tasty matcha beforehand!

Of course, these are just some of the amazing benefits of matcha. Besides being good for you, matcha also provides energy, tastes great, and promotes overall well-being and wellness.
